Location:
This traditional stone house has lovely views over the roof tops of houses and the church bell tower towards the sea and across
the surrounding countryside to the mountains. The house is centrally located in the village of Madena alongside the main square.
The village square has a kafeneon / shop which is a focal point for this working village. Madena is also on the bus route
to the town of Messini where connections via bus and train will take you anywhere in Greece. Messini is 5 minutes drive by
car.
The town of Messini is to be found 10km south west of Kalamata city and with a population of 7000 people is the second largest town in Messinia. Messini
has many modern amenities such as various shops, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and bars. It also has numerous banks, pharmacies,
general practitioners, dentists and a health centre. Sports facilities include a national football field and a variety of
gymnasiums.
Kalamata International Airport is 20 minutes drive by car. There are direct charter flights from most European
countries form April to October as well as internal flights all year round to Athens by way of daily scheduled flights. Alternatively
you can drive (260km) or take an air-conditioned coach from Kalamata to the bus station at Kifissos (2 3/4 hours).
The closest beach is Analypsi, 3km drive away, which has been awarded the Blue Flag
of Europe for its 20km of sandy shoreline which extends from Kalamata through Bouka (Messini), Velika (where there are plans
for a new marine and board walk), Rizomilo (where there are plans for a 9 hole golf course, 15 minutes by car) and beyond
to the town of Petalidi.
The recently opened international 18 hole championship golf course at Romanou is only 50 minutes drive by car from this house. A second golf course near Pylos
will be opening in 2011 and is only 35 minutes drive by car.
